Averaging Grading Periods
To average together previous grading periods to create a final
class grade for your students:
1. Hover your mouse over the My Classes link at the top of the page and
select Create New Class.
2. At the top of the page you'll see the option to re-use the settings from a
previous class, select one of the class's prior grading periods from that box. That will
pre-fill all of the fields on the page with the settings you used before. Adjust
the settings - such as the class name, grading period, and student list - as
needed.
3. Remove any pre-entered assignment categories. Select Yes to weight assignment
categories, and enter one category for each of the previous grading periods and
a category for any additional assignments you wish to add as well (such as a
final test). For example:
- First Grading Period: 40%
- Second Grading Period: 40%
- Final Test: 20%
4. Save the class settings.
5. In the gradebook, click Add New Assignment and create an assignment to
represent the first grading period. Title the assignment "First Grading
Period," file it into the First Grading Period category and make it worth
100 points possible. Then for each student, enter their overall class percentage
for the first grading period as their score. For example, if a student received
a 95% for the first grading period, give that student a score of 95 on this
assignment. Repeat this process for any other grading periods you wish to add.
6. If you also wish to add a final test or any other assignment to the class,
you can do so as you normally would.
That's it! Once you've added those assignments, Engrade will
automatically calculate your students' final class grades according to your
class settings.
